I love spending time with my family and traveling. I enjoy exercising daily and reading when I have time. What medical change has impacted the field of cancer the most since you began practicing medicine?
Genetics and pharmaceutical options have greatly impacted the oncology field, allowing for more individualized treatment plans for our patients. Why did you choose your field?
Oncology is a very special field to me as I have a personal history with cancer. Cancer has affected both sides of my family, as well. I have had the opportunity to work with patients who are diagnosed with cancer for several years and found this area to be my passion. I chose to work in the oncology field to provide patients with evidence-based care in hopes to improve their quality of life and support them through their own cancer journey. I love this field because of the new technologies and advancements in oncology which allow for different treatment options for patients. This field is challenging and provides the opportunity for continued educational growth.Do you have any advice to give patients after they have been diagnosed with cancer?
Take some time for yourself to understand your diagnosis and process your feelings. Reach out with questions; never be afraid to ask questions. Advocate for yourself. Be involved in your treatment plan. Stay positive and surround yourself with family and friends that create positivity and support. Live in the moment and spend time with people that make you laugh! You are not alone on this journey.
