What medical change has impacted the field of cancer the most since you began practicing medicine?
The evolving change of treatments including our new treatments to target genetic mutations made up by the cancer. This has been a huge turning point in oncology care, and we continue to see it evolving and allowing more patients treatments that we have not had in the past.
Why did you choose your field?
I chose oncology for the changing treatments that we can offer our patients, allowing myself to connect with patients and family members during the most vulnerable time of their lives. In oncology, we are not just treating the disease, we are supporting the patient, celebrating small victories and being the hope our patients need. I have loved being an oncology nurse and I couldn't imagine being an APN anywhere else for our patients.
Do you have any advice to give patients after they have been diagnosed with cancer?
My advice for patients who have been diagnosed with cancer is take a deep breath. Life is filled with lots of ups and downs, and we are here to help you get through this every step of the way. Be kind to yourself.
