Hobbies / Interests
Outside of work, I enjoy staying active and spending time outdoors. I try to maintain a regular workout routine to support a healthy lifestyle. If the weather is nice, you’ll probably find me kayaking, going on ATV rides, or working in my garden. I love spending quality time with my friends and family as well. My husband, Garrett, and I have a loving dog named Biscuit who keeps life fun and full of energy. Whether we’re relaxing together or enjoying an adventure, time with them is always my favorite part of the day!
What medical change has impacted the field of cancer the most since you began practicing medicine?
The expansion and evolution of next-generation checkpoint inhibitors, CAR-T, and bispecific antibodies are gaining ground in treating traditionally challenging cancers.
Why did you choose your field?
I chose oncology and hematology because I'm passionate about caring for patients and their families during some of the most challenging moments of their lives. The complexity of cancer care, the rapid advancements in treatment, and the opportunity to combine both scientific knowledge and compassionate presence is something I really enjoy.
Do you have any advice to give patients after they have been diagnosed with cancer?
Taking things one day at a time can sometimes make a new cancer diagnosis feel a little more manageable. Give yourself permission to pause, process, and take small steps forward. Each day is its own accomplishment, and you're not expected to carry this whole journey at once or alone. Your care team at Illinois CancerCare and I are here to walk you through every step and support you in any way you need.
