Hobbies / Interests
I love spending time with my family and friends, traveling, Pilates, going to concerts, making wreaths, and coloring.
What medical change has impacted the field of cancer the most since you began practicing medicine?
I am incredibly grateful for research and the advancements made in cancer treatment over the years. The evolution of cancer research has had a profound impact on treatment options and patient outcomes. I have loved ones who were affected by cancer, and thanks to targeted therapies developed through ongoing research, they are now able to live fuller, healthier lives.
Why did you choose your field?
I worked as a Registered Nurse at Illinois CancerCare in 2015. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I made the difficult decision to step away from oncology at that time. However, the field has always remained close to my heart because of my personal experiences with loved ones who have battled cancer.
Do you have any advice to give patients after they have been diagnosed with cancer?
Receiving a cancer diagnosis can feel devastating. Take things one step at a time. Always ask questions about your diagnosis, treatment options, and prognosis. Make sure you have a good support system, whether that’s family, friends, a support group, or a counselor. Focus on what you can control right now by attending appointments, following your treatment plan, maintaining good nutrition, and staying as active as you’re able. And remember that your healthcare team is here to support and guide you through this process. You are not alone.
