Hobbies / Interests:
My two daughters are older now, so it is me and my dogs (3). I love being outdoors. I am also an avid do-it-yourselfer. I love to research project and complete it by myself. They all do not come out the way I hoped but I can say I did it myself.
What medical change has impacted the field of cancer the most since you began practicing medicine?
I would have to say that cancer treatments are forever changing. With the introduction of genetic research, treatments can become more individualized for the patients, therefore provided better outcomes.
Why did you choose your field?
My dad was diagnosed with cancer and I watched how seamlessly the interdisciplinary teams coordinated his care. I was driven by the teamwork that was displayed and wanted to be a part of that team. I also find oncology to be an extremely challenging specialty as cancer care is constantly changing and I feel that I am up for that challenge.
Do you have any advice to give patients after they have been diagnosed with cancer?
Ask as many questions as you can. Seek out support groups as they can be you the patient and the family. Finally, utilize all your resources that are available to you and advocate for yourself!
