What medical change has impacted the field of cancer the most since you began practicing medicine?
The emerging concept of “personalized medicine” in which each patient’s individual tumor biology is increasingly examined, with the potential for treatment with new and innovative drugs. The emergence of minimally invasive/robotic surgical technology has also revolutionized the way in which we are able to care for our patient’s surgical needs.
Why did you choose your field?
Gynecologic oncology affords me the unsurpassed opportunity to care for amazing women with complex surgical, medical and emotional needs.
Why did you choose Illinois to practice when you could have gone anywhere in the country?
I grew up in central Illinois and am thrilled to return ‘home’ with my family to offer state-of-the-art gynecologic oncology care to women in this community.
Do you have any advice to give patients after they have been diagnosed with cancer?
Ask your doctor ALL of your questions. Be frank about your fears, concerns and confusions, so that we can establish an excellent relationship and make decisions together about the best medical plan of care for you.
