What medical change has impacted the field of cancer the most since you began practicing medicine?
The development of targeted therapies and subsequent personalized care.
Why did you choose your field?
I find the pathology of the disease very interesting.
Why did you choose Illinois CancerCare?
I grew up in Peoria. I have always felt that it was a great place to raise a family. My parents still live in Peoria and I returned shortly after completing my training to be close to them.
Do you have any advice to give patients after they have been diagnosed with cancer?
Cancer is a diagnosis that means you’re embarking on a journey. Ask a lot of questions. Empower yourself with knowledge about your disease. Work with your physician to develop a treatment plan you are comfortable with. Use the ancillary resources we have available to assist you in the process. Develop a good support system. Ask for additional assistance if you need it. Take one day at at time.
